Korean-speaking doctors, clinics & oriental medicine (한의원) in Auckland

Seeing a doctor, dentist, or oriental-medicine practitioner who speaks Korean makes it far easier to describe symptoms, understand a diagnosis, and weigh treatment options in your own language. Auckland has a good spread of Korean-speaking health services: 한의원 (Korean oriental medicine) and acupuncture, physiotherapy, chiropractic, podiatry, and dental care. This guide explains what each does, how enrolment and fees work, and what to confirm before you book — then names the clinics we’ve verified.

Korean-speaking GPs and clinics

A GP (general practitioner) is your first point of contact for most non-emergency health needs: check-ups, prescriptions, referrals, and ongoing care.

• Enrol to pay less. If your visa or residency status qualifies, enrolling with a clinic generally makes visits subsidised, while casual (non-enrolled) visits cost more. Our guide to enrolling with a GP explains how enrolment, prescriptions, after-hours care, and ACC work.
• Ask before booking. A clinic may have a Korean-speaking doctor on some days only, so confirm availability and whether they’re taking new patients.
• Urgent but not an emergency? Use an urgent care / accident & medical clinic, or call Healthline 0800 611 116 (free, interpreters available). Emergencies: dial 111.

A note on what we can and can’t tell you: there are Korean-speaking GPs practising in Auckland — but no Korean-owned general practice we can list as a business. Those are different things, and the difference matters when you’re trying to book. The GPs below work at mainstream multi-doctor practices, so we name them as practitioners, sourced to Healthpoint, rather than turning their employer into a listing. Doctors move between practices and we have no way to be told when they do, so treat this as a starting point and confirm before you enrol.

Korean-speaking GPs in Auckland, by practice

These are not directory listings and we make no claim about the practices themselves — only that Healthpoint records these doctors as Korean-speaking.

• Birkenhead Medical Centre — Dr Soo Han (Claire), Dr Tony Ryu.
• Browns Bay Family Doctors — Dr Youngjun Park.
• Browns Bay Medical Centre (13–15 Bute Road) — Dr David Lim.
• Manly Medical Centre, Whangaparāoa — Dr Evy Shin, Dr George Yoon, Dr Lisa Rhee.
• Northpoint Medical Centre (40 Library Lane, Albany) — Dr Daniel Kim, who also consults online through Bettr.
• GP and Me, Three Kings (formerly Three Kings Family Doctors) — Dr Connie Juhn.
• Three Kings Accident & Medical — Dr Un Russell-Park.
• Tend Pakūranga Medical Centre — Dr Ji-Young Park.

Ring the practice and ask for the doctor by name — whether they’re taking new patients, and which days they consult. A practice being on this list doesn’t mean reception speaks Korean.

If you’re not in Auckland

Every Korean-speaking GP Healthpoint names is based in Auckland. Two things are still worth knowing if you live elsewhere:

• One of them consults online, nationwide. Dr Daniel Kim (Northpoint Medical Centre, Albany) also takes online consultations through Bettr, and he’s the one Korean-speaking GP Healthpoint returns in every region of the country. A video consultation won’t suit everything, but it means a Korean-speaking GP isn’t an Auckland-only option.
• Some practices list Korean without naming a doctor. Thirteen practices outside Auckland record Korean under “Languages Spoken” with no named Korean-speaking GP attached: five in Waikato, two in Canterbury (Doctors on Riccarton and My Medical), two in Dunedin, one in Nelson and one in Oamaru. Two of them — My Medical in Christchurch and Nelson City Medical Centre — list only English and Korean, which points to a Korean-speaking doctor who simply has no Healthpoint profile. We haven’t confirmed any of them, so treat these as a phone call worth making rather than a promise.

Korean-speaking dentists

Most adult dental care in New Zealand is private, so costs vary between clinics; ask for a quote before treatment. Most under-18s get free basic dental care through the public service.

한의원: Korean oriental medicine & acupuncture

한의원 (Korean oriental medicine clinics) offer acupuncture (침), herbal medicine (한약), cupping (부항) and related treatments, and are a familiar option for many in the Korean community. Several Auckland clinics are run by Korean-speaking practitioners.

• Regulation: acupuncture is a regulated practice in New Zealand. It’s worth checking the practitioner’s registration and clinic details before booking.
• ACC: for an accidental injury, ACC may contribute to acupuncture treatment when the provider is ACC-registered; confirm eligibility and any part-charge with the clinic. Treatment for general wellbeing is usually self-funded or via private insurance.
• Talk to your GP too for anything that also needs conventional medical care; the two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Every clinic here is a verified listing: we confirm the business is real and registered, and we record on each listing page how we know it’s relevant to Korean speakers — stated by the clinic itself, or listed in a Korean community directory. Those aren’t the same strength of evidence, so where a clinic’s Korean-language service isn’t confirmed, we say so rather than assume it. How we verify. 한의원 & acupuncture

The clinics below are the ones named in this guide; the full, growing list of Korean-run 한의원 is on the Acupuncture & Korean Medicine Clinics hub, with an Auckland page and a North Shore page.

• The Hue Clinic (휴 한의원) — 12/35 Apollo Drive, Rosedale. Led by Dr Joseph Cha (PhD, Traditional Chinese Medicine), an ACC-registered acupuncture provider; acupuncture and herbal medicine with Korean-language consultation.
• Safehands Clinic (세이프핸즈 한의원) — 238 Pakuranga Road, Pakuranga Heights, with a second room in Highland Park. NZ-registered acupuncturists Gon (Seonggon) Kim and Jeff (Sungkyun) Lee.
• 밀포드 한의원 (Milford Korean Oriental Medicine Clinic) — Milford, North Shore. Acupuncture and herbal treatments with Korean-language consultation.
• 하늘숲 한의원 & MyChiro 카이로프랙틱 — city (본원) and Glenfield branches. Korean oriental medicine combined with chiropractic care.
• Choice Clinic (한의원 물리치료) — Auckland. Korean oriental medicine alongside physiotherapy.
• AXON Physio & Acupuncture (액손 물리치료 한방병원) — Newmarket, Albany and Sunnynook (Forrest Hill). Physiotherapy with a Korean 한방 focus.
• CareWell Clinic (케어웰 한의원) — Suite 1, 418 Glenfield Road, Glenfield. Led by Dr So Hee Kim; individualised acupuncture and holistic treatment for pain and post-natal recovery.
• Grant Acupuncture Clinic (원광한의원) — Suite 5, 54 View Road, Wairau Valley. Owner-practitioner Dr Junggeun Kim has run the clinic since 2010; injury recovery, post-surgical rehabilitation and persistent pain.

Physiotherapy, osteopathy & chiropractic

• Auckland Wellness Centre (카이로프랙틱 & 한의원) — E2/27 William Pickering Drive, Rosedale. Open since 2013; posture-focused chiropractic, spinal decompression and acupuncture under one roof.
• Lifeline Chiropractic (라이프라인 척추관절클리닉) — 161 Dominion Road, Mount Eden. Spinal and joint care with chiropractic and acupuncture; advertises ACC-registered treatment.
• Physio Plus (피지오 플러스 물리치료 한방클리닉) — 28/15 Bishop Lenihan Place, East Tāmaki. Western physio alongside acupuncture, clinical Pilates, cupping and gua sha; handles ACC claims with no doctor’s referral needed.
• Triumph Physio (트라이엄프 물리치료) — Shop 12, 2 Harris Road, Mount Wellington, with branches in Newmarket and at the Auckland Badminton stadium in Epsom. Physio, acupuncture and TCM, sports massage and reformer pilates.
• Twins Physio & Podiatry (트윈즈 피지오) — 194 Sunnynook Road, Totara Vale, with a second room in Takapuna. Started over ten years ago by twin brothers Michael Lee (physiotherapist) and Raphael Lee (musculoskeletal podiatrist), who moved from Korea to Auckland in 1995; neck, shoulder, back, knee and ankle pain, shockwave therapy, postural correction and ingrown toenail treatment. The clinic states all of its physiotherapists and podiatrists speak Korean fluently, and that it is ACC registered with no GP referral needed.
• Flow Clinic (플로우 클리닉) — Unit 5B, 54 View Road, Wairau Valley, North Shore. A Korean-owned physiotherapy clinic run by Hyunseo (Jason) Kwon; rehabilitation after foot, knee, ankle and hip injuries, with strength work built into recovery. We hold it from a Korean community directory, so ask about Korean-language consultation when you book.
• Backpro Integrated Health Clinic (백프로) — 24 Widdison Place, Albany, North Shore. A Korean-run integrated clinic led by osteopath Chulhwan Kim, combining osteopathy with acupuncture, acupotomy, shockwave therapy and supervised exercise for long-standing back, neck and joint pain. We hold it from a Korean community directory, so ask about Korean-language consultation when you book.
• Link Health and Fitness — Wairau Valley, North Shore. Not a clinic as such: it’s a gym, but one with ACC physiotherapy, reformer pilates and acupuncture on site, and its listing records that the owner speaks Korean.

Podiatry (발·발목)

• Waitakere Foot (와이타케레 풋) — 2 Montel Avenue, Henderson, with clinics in Te Atatū Peninsula and New Lynn. Founded in 2009 by principal podiatrist Kiseon Hong, who is fluent in Korean; orthotics, ingrown toenail surgery and shockwave therapy.
• Smile Foot Care (스마일 풋 케어) — 317 Pakuranga Road, Pakuranga. Run by AUT-trained podiatrist Frank; heel and ankle pain, ingrown toenails including nail surgery, and diabetic foot care.
• Hobsonville Podiatry — Hobsonville, West Auckland. Ingrown toenails, corns and calluses, warts, heel and ankle pain, and diabetes-related foot care.
• CS Healthcare Podiatry & Acupuncture (밀포드 CS 한의원) — 50 East Coast Road, Milford. Foot and lower-limb treatment including ACC claims and rehabilitation, gait and balance assessment with custom orthotics, alongside acupuncture.

GP practices listed in Korean community directories

Separate from the Auckland practitioners above, these three are the only general practices we hold as listings, and they’re all outside Auckland. Each appears in a Korean community directory, which is why we hold it, but none of them advertises a Korean-speaking doctor and we haven’t been able to confirm one at any of them. We list them because a Korean reader may well be sent to them by word of mouth and deserves to know what is and isn’t established. Ask about language directly before you enrol. • Hamilton East Medical Centre (해밀톤 이스트 메디컬 센터) — 16 Beale Street, Hamilton East. A large practice caring for around 18,000 patients since the 1940s; routine care, immunisations, minor surgery, travel and sports medicine. The practice doesn’t advertise Korean-speaking staff, so expect consultations in English.
• Hornby Medical Centre (혼비 메디컬 센터) — 15 Brynley Street, Hornby, southwest Christchurch. Everyday family GP care: check-ups, screening, immunisations, minor surgery and Well Child checks. Neither its website nor Healthpoint mentions Korean-speaking staff.
• Island Bay Medical Centre (아일랜드 베이 메디컬 센터) — 159 The Parade, Island Bay, Wellington. RNZCGP Cornerstone accredited; GP care plus immunisation, screening, contraception and minor surgery. Enrolment is limited to the Island Bay catchment, and a Korean-speaking doctor isn’t confirmed.

How to find a Korean-speaking provider

• Confirm the language. Check the clinic’s website or call ahead, as a clinic may have Korean-speaking staff or a specific Korean-speaking practitioner, sometimes only on certain days.
• Check registration for regulated providers (doctors, dentists, acupuncturists) through the relevant professional register, and confirm services and fees before your first visit.
• For an injury, ask about ACC — whether the clinic is an ACC-registered provider, and what part-charge applies.

• GP(가정의): 대부분의 비응급 건강 문제에서 첫 연락처입니다. 비자·거주 자격을 충족하면 클리닉에 등록(enrol) 시 보조 진료비가 적용되고, 비등록 방문은 더 비쌉니다. 등록·처방·야간 진료·ACC 등 제도는 GP 등록 가이드를 참고하세요. 한국어 진료가 특정 요일만 가능한 경우도 있으니 예약 전 확인하세요. 야간·긴급(비응급)은 urgent care 또는 Healthline 0800 611 116(무료·통역), 응급은 111.
• 치과: 성인 치과는 대부분 자비 부담이라 비용이 클리닉마다 다르니 치료 전 견적을 확인하세요. 만 18세 미만은 대부분 기본 진료가 무료입니다.
• 한의원(한방·침·한약): 오클랜드에는 침·한약·부항 등을 다루는 한의원이 있고 한국어가 가능한 곳도 많습니다. 뉴질랜드에서 침 시술은 등록 제도가 있으니 시술자의 등록 여부를 확인하고, 사고로 인한 부상 치료라면 ACC 등록 제공자인지 확인하세요(자격·본인 부담금은 클리닉 문의). 일반 건강 목적의 시술은 대개 자비·사보험입니다.
