Korean grocery stores and marts in NZ: 24 verified, by area

Whether you’re recreating a dish you tried at a Korean restaurant or stocking a Korean pantry, New Zealand has dedicated Korean grocers (한국식품점) plus larger Asian supermarkets that carry a deep Korean range. Auckland has the most to choose from, but you’ll find Korean marts (한인 마트) in the other main centres too. Below: the staples worth knowing, and then twenty-four Korean grocers, marts and butchers we’ve verified, named and grouped by area.

Staples worth knowing

• Kimchi & banchan: fridge sections of pre-made kimchi and side dishes.
• Sauces & pastes: gochujang (chilli paste), doenjang (soybean paste), ssamjang, soy, and sesame oil.
• Noodles & rice: ramyeon, glass noodles (dangmyeon) for japchae, and short-grain rice.
• Frozen & fresh: dumplings (mandu), rice cakes (tteok), fish cake, perilla leaves, and Korean pear in season.
• Snacks & drinks: Korean chips, choco pies, banana milk, and barley/corn teas.

Korean grocery stores in Auckland, by area

Two Korean food importers run most of the supermarkets below. Five are H Mart stores run by Hansang Trading (한상유통), a Korean food importer trading since 2014: four across Auckland plus one in Tauranga. Six are run by Wang Trading (거복식품), a Korean food importer and distributor established in Auckland in 1995: Wang Korea Food Market and Kim’s Club, three on the North Shore and two in East Auckland, plus the group’s first South Island store in Christchurch.

These are the Korean grocers, marts and butchers in our directory, grouped by where they are. Each links to its page, where you’ll find the Google profile for current hours and stock. Those change too often for us to hold them here.

Auckland CBD

• H Mart City (에이치마트 시티): Level 1, 9–15 Wakefield Street, an easy walk from Queen Street and the universities. Also trades as iMart. Rice, ramyeon, jang and sauces, kimchi and banchan, snacks and frozen food, without heading out to the Shore.

North Shore

• Wang Korea Food Market Link Drive (왕푸드마켓 링크점): 18/20 Link Drive, Wairau Valley, in the big-box shopping strip and an easy detour off the motorway. Pantry staples, sauces and seasoning pastes, instant noodles, snacks and drinks, plus fresh produce and a butchery counter.
• Wang Korea Food Market Rosedale (왕푸드마켓 로즈데일점): 98 Rosedale Road, Albany. The same group at the northern end of the Shore, handy to Browns Bay, Torbay and the North Harbour business area.
• Kim’s Club (킴스클럽): 75 View Road, Wairau Valley, near Glenfield and Northcote, under a kilometre from the Link Drive store. Pantry staples, sauces and seasoning pastes, instant noodles, snacks and drinks, plus fresh vegetables, fish and household goods.
• H Mart Albany (에이치마트 알바니 · 한아름마트): 2A/2 Tawa Drive, Albany. A Korean supermarket run by Hansang Trading: fresh produce and meat, kimchi and side dishes, and the whole Korean pantry.
• Oh Dear Meats (오디밋 정육점): 2A/2 Tawa Drive — the same Tawa Drive site as H Mart Albany, so you can do both in one stop. A Korean butcher rather than a grocer: fresh cuts and marinated meat for Korean cooking and barbecue.

East Auckland

• H Mart Howick (에이치마트 하윅): 166c Harris Road, East Tāmaki. The eastern Hansang Trading branch: kimchi and side dishes, meat, and a full Korean pantry.
• Wang Korea Food Market Howick (왕푸드마켓 하윅): 312 Ti Rakau Drive, Burswood, a short walk from H Mart Howick, so East Auckland’s two Korean supermarket groups sit side by side. Known as 왕마트 before the Wang Korea Food Market name.
• Wang Korea Food Market Botany (왕푸드마켓 보타니): 7/14 Bishop Lenihan Place, East Tāmaki, between Botany and Flat Bush. Korean and Asian groceries and household essentials.
• Royal Vege (로얄야채): 7/14 Bishop Lenihan Place, East Tāmaki, the same address as Wang Korea Food Market Botany. A Korean greengrocer focused on fresh produce and the vegetables Korean home cooking runs on, from kimchi cabbage and daikon to everyday fruit and veg.

West Auckland

• H Mart Henderson (에이치마트 헨더슨): 42 Paramount Drive, Henderson. The western Hansang Trading branch — kimchi and side dishes, meat, and a full Korean pantry — and the closest Korean supermarket to the north-western suburbs.

Online, delivered

• Hi Fresh: not a shop to walk into — an online frozen seafood and meat supplier based in Whenuapai, delivering across Auckland and couriering the rest of the country. Useful for the seafood a Korean kitchen wants portioned and frozen: hoki roe, red cod, flounder, squid and octopus, plus BBQ and hot-pot cuts.
• FROMK (프롬케이): online-only, with no walk-in shop — a Korean grocery based in Onehunga that ships nationwide. A full pantry from kimchi and banchan to ramyeon, jang, snacks and household goods, which is the practical option if you live away from a Korean supermarket.
• The Green Market (더그린마켓): a Korean-language online shop run from Forrest Hill on the North Shore, with shipping to both islands. Ready meals, sauces and pastes, teas and snacks alongside kitchen, baby and household goods, and it also sends gift parcels to Korea. No walk-in shop.

Elsewhere in Auckland

• Sam’s Butchery: 2200 East Coast Road, Silverdale. A Korean-friendly butcher offering fresh and marinated cuts.
• Canaan Vege (가나안 야채): a Korean greengrocer supplying fresh vegetables and produce, listed on the North Shore. We hold it without a published street address, so check before you travel.

Korean grocers beyond Auckland

Tauranga

• H Mart Tauranga (에이치마트 타우랑가): 32 Paraone Koikoi Drive, Tauriko, on the western edge of Tauranga. Run by Korean food importer Hansang Trading (한상유통), and the only H Mart outside Auckland: fresh produce and meat, kimchi and prepared side dishes, rice and ramyeon, jang and sauces, snacks and frozen food — the Bay of Plenty’s Korean shop without the drive to the city.

Christchurch

• Kosco (코스코): 227 Blenheim Road, Riccarton, with parking off the main road. One of the main stops for Korean ingredients in the South Island: rice, ramyeon, jang and sauces, kimchi and banchan, snacks and frozen food.
• Banchan Mart (반찬마트): in the Kosco building at 217 Blenheim Road, Riccarton. A small Korean food shop that Google lists as a restaurant with dine-in and takeaway.
• Kosco Papanui: 23 Langdons Road, Papanui, on the north side of the city. A Korean and Asian grocery trading under the same Kosco name.
• Wang Korea Food Market Hornby (왕마트 Hornby점): 6 Tower Street, Hornby, on the south-west side. Wang Trading’s first South Island store, from the Auckland group behind Wang Korea Food Market and Kim’s Club.

Nelson

• CJ Asian Mart (Nelson): 159 Hardy Street, in central Nelson. Korean and Asian food, ingredients and household goods.

Queenstown

• Kims Asian Foods (킴스 아시안 푸드): Shop B02/03, Queenstown Central, 19 Grant Road, Frankton, near the airport. Korean pantry staples, snacks and frozen food for the wider Otago region.

Dunedin

• CJ Asian Mart Dunedin: 392 George Street, Dunedin North. Korean and Asian food, ingredients and household items for the lower South Island.

Worth saying plainly: we don’t yet list a Korean grocer in Wellington, the Hutt or Hamilton. Stores serving those areas exist; we just haven’t verified one for the directory. If you know one, tell us. Where there’s no dedicated Korean grocer nearby, a larger pan-Asian supermarket will usually carry the core staples (gochujang, soy, sesame oil, ramyeon, and short-grain rice), and Maangchi’s list above covers the whole country.

Korean red ginseng

Red ginseng (홍삼) is one of the things people go looking for by name rather than picking up on a shelf, and it is usually bought from a specialist. Two businesses in our directory deal in it:

• Korea Ginseng Corporation NZ (정관장): the New Zealand distributor of Cheong Kwan Jang (정관장) Korean red ginseng products, based in Christchurch. Contact the distributor for the current range and how to buy.
• Yangji Red Ginseng (양지홍삼): an Auckland business selling its own range online with delivery nationwide. There is no shop to visit: orders go through its website.

Korean grocery stores often carry red ginseng alongside teas and tonics too, but the range varies a lot between stores and we don’t track stock, so ring ahead if you are making the trip for something specific.

Wholesale and import, rather than a shopfront
