- What do Korean grocery stores in New Zealand sell?
- The staples of a Korean kitchen: kimchi and ready-made banchan side dishes, instant and fresh noodles, short-grain rice, the jang pastes and sauces (gochujang, doenjang, soy), gochugaru chilli flake, sesame oil, seaweed, frozen dumplings and rice cakes, Korean snacks and drinks, and everyday household goods. Larger stores usually add fresh produce and a butchery counter with cuts prepared for Korean BBQ. Range varies by store.
- Where are the Korean grocery stores and supermarkets in New Zealand?
- Most of the stores we have verified are in Auckland and on the North Shore, with several in Christchurch and single stores listed in Tauranga, Nelson, Dunedin and Queenstown. Use the location pages to find the ones near you; each listing links out to the store's own website or Google profile for its address and hours.
- What's the difference between a Korean grocery store and an Asian supermarket?
- A Korean grocery store stocks Korean brands and lines throughout, and generally carries a wider range of fresh kimchi, banchan and Korean meat cuts. A pan-Asian supermarket carries Korean products alongside Chinese, Japanese and South-East Asian ones, so the Korean range is narrower but often still covers the basics. This directory lists both, as long as the store is somewhere you can reliably buy Korean ingredients.
- Do you track what's in stock, or prices?
- No. Stock and prices change constantly and vary between branches, so we deliberately do not store them. If you are making a trip for something specific, ring the store or check its Google profile first.
- A store is missing — can I add it?
- Yes. Send us a free business listing or a correction report and we'll review it.
- Where can you buy Korean red ginseng in New Zealand?
- Two listed businesses specialise in it: Korea Ginseng Corporation NZ (정관장) in Christchurch, the New Zealand distributor for Cheong Kwan Jang, and Yangji Red Ginseng, an Auckland business that sells online and delivers nationwide. Korean grocery stores may also stock red ginseng, but we do not track stock, so check with the store before you travel.
- Where can you shop for Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) and Seollal in New Zealand?
- At a Korean grocery store. In the weeks before Chuseok (usually September or October) and Seollal (Lunar New Year), many stores bring in the holiday table: songpyeon and other rice cakes, jeon ingredients, seasoned namul vegetables, meat cut for galbi and bulgogi, fruit, and gift sets such as red ginseng. Larger stores often set up a holiday section. If there is no Korean supermarket near you, several listed stores take online orders and deliver nationwide. Popular lines sell out close to the holiday and opening hours can change over the long weekend, so check with the store before you travel or order — we do not track stock or prices.
