JEI Learning Centre sits on Link Drive in Wairau Valley, a short hop off the motorway between Takapuna and Glenfield. It is the New Zealand base of JEI, the Korean education company known at home as 재능교육, which has been running programmes globally for more than 40 years. The New Zealand company behind it has been on the Companies Register since 2004.
The centre runs five after-school programmes: JEI Math, JEI English, Reading & Writing, Problem Solving Math, and Brain Safari. The English programme covers Kindergarten through Year 9 across eleven levels, starting at alphabet recognition and working up to complex sentence structure, literary analysis and research skills.
What sets the JEI approach apart is that students do not sit a fixed class syllabus. Each child works through an individualised schedule of programmed workbooks, and each weekly workbook finishes with an interim test on the concepts it covered, so gaps show up early rather than at report time. JEI describes the instructor, the workbooks and the parent as a triad working together.
