Morning (protect):

1. Cleanse: a gentle foam, or just water if your skin is dry.
2. Toner / essence: a watery layer for hydration.
3. Moisturise: a gel-cream for a lighter finish.
4. Sunscreen: the single step that does the most for your skin over time.

Evening (clean and treat):

K-beauty has crossed into mainstream retail: Chemist Warehouse and Farmers now stock popular brands like COSRX and Beauty of Joseon, so you can often pick up a starter product on a normal shopping trip.

Elsewhere in New Zealand

The NZ-wide online stores above all deliver nationally, so wherever you are, ordering online is usually the simplest route to authentic stock:

• Christchurch & the South Island: every NZ online retailer ships here; there’s no need to import for the popular brands.

Buying from overseas (ships to New Zealand)

Two large overseas retailers are handy for brands or products the local stores don’t carry:

• Olive Young Global: Korea’s biggest health-and-beauty chain; its international store ships to NZ and is about as safe as it gets for authentic stock.
• YesStyle: a wide K-beauty range with frequent sales, ships to NZ. Other options like Stylevana and Jolse ship here too.

What you’ll pay at the border. Since December 2019, overseas retailers selling low-value goods (anything up to NZ$1,000 per item) are required to charge 15% GST at checkout, so for most skincare orders the tax is already in the price you pay. YesStyle, for example, includes NZ GST in its displayed prices; Olive Young Global doesn’t collect it at checkout, so GST (plus a handling fee) can be charged when the parcel arrives. The threshold applies per item, not per order — an order can come to more than NZ$1,000 and still have GST charged by the seller, provided each individual item is NZ$1,000 or less. Where a single item is worth more than NZ$1,000, GST and any duty are collected by NZ Customs at the border before the parcel is released, rather than by the seller. Compare the delivered price, not just the sticker price, and check shipping times before buying anything time-sensitive.

How to know it’s authentic

Counterfeit K-beauty does circulate, so a quick check is worth it, especially on a marketplace or an unfamiliar overseas seller:

• Buy from sellers that source genuine stock. Established NZ K-beauty retailers, mainstream chains, and the brands’ own global stores (like Olive Young Global) work with the manufacturers directly.
• Look for Korean on the packaging. Legitimate Korean products almost always carry Korean text and clear manufacturer or distributor details; missing or misspelled text is a red flag.
• Check the batch code and expiry. Genuine codes are cleanly laser-etched or stamped, not printed on a smudgy peel-off sticker; missing or blurry dates are a warning sign.
• Use brand verification where offered. Many Korean brands print a QR code you can scan to confirm authenticity; a genuine one just opens a read-only page, so be wary if it asks you to log in or grant permissions.
• Be wary of a price far below every trusted seller. A deal that’s too good is the classic counterfeit tell.
